What's up with "The Gospel of Judas"?
If you have been watching the news lately, you have certainly seen the buzz being created around the discovery of the so-called new gospel recently discovered. The National Geographic has released the "Gospel of Judas", an ancient manuscript reportedly found in the desert. This manuscript is being postitioned by the press as an alternative gospel that refutes the accounts of those found in the Bible.
Does this new document change the way we see the Bible. Does it lend any credence to Christianity's credits? Should this "new discovery" put doubt in our faith?
Absolutley not!
Before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion, we need to hear the whole story. Biblical scholars have already responded and refuted the claims of the proponents of this new "gospel". Of course, none of this has been reported in the secular press. Click on this link and read this account for yourself.
Michael D. McMullen, associate professor of church history at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. reminds us of a very valuable lesson when he said, "]t reminds us that the early church was built on Scripture, and that heretics like the Gnostics were a real threat to the Gospel ... and that present-day heretics will continue to use such a document to attack the very same inerrant Scriptures that God has given."
